Misato night, enjoy!

Something interesting that I realized about Misato is that she is essentially a reflection of the state of the world.  Her life is tied inexorably to the Angels and their effect on humanity.  When she was a young girl, she was innocent, much like humanity was (with regard to the Angels), until Second Impact in which she lost her father, and the planet lost a sizable amount of its population.

In her teenage and grownup years, Misato comes off as a playful, lighthearted person, but we really know that is just a facade.  She is haunted by the loss of her father (so she pushes Kaji away) and is consumed by her desire for revenge on the Angels (so she joins Nerv and relentlessly eliminates them).  Similarly, life goes on in Tokyo III, but evidence of Second Impact and the Angels’ passing can be seen in the red oceans, the derelict buildings, and the massive climate change.

After Near-Third Impact, Misato is cold and calculating, lacking any apparent compassion at all.  Similarly, the world is cold and unforgiving, as are its remaining inhabitants.  Basically, each Impact heavily alters the landscape of the planet, and we see these changes reflected in how Misato’s personality changes over the course of the timeline.

Certainly nothing profound here, just another rhetorical tidbit that caught my eye.
